CIRQUE INFERNAL REVIEW
We all love good eye candy, fit and athletic boys and girls
with amazing bodies and Cirque Infernal performers ticked all the right boxes.
We headed out to Joburg Theatre, Mandela Stage where we were treated to the opening
night of Cirque Infernal. Cirque Infernal is a thrilling, over the top,
exciting, jaw dropping show direct from Europe with entertainers walking on
tight ropes playing with fire and knifes. Heightened with music that will keep
your heart beating out of your chest and your eyes fixated on the stage, this is
the show for everyone! I have to give it up to Cirque Infernal Creator Danny
Varanne for carefully crafting this show to suit all audiences with
incorporation of Gothic themes, a little spice of Spanish music, Bikes and many
more thrilling elements.
I think they lost it with the opening sequence and the
storyline they tried putting forward. Storylining is a delicate process and it
seemed as if they put theirs together at the last minute. I think shows like
Cirque Infernal do not necessarily need a story as a backdrop. The stunts are
enough to put forward the vision of the creator or the journey of the
entertainers. However Shelly d'Inferno did a great job as the Grim Reaper’s
advocate, she was sassy, dark and fierce which had the acts going swiftly on
the right pace. I also loved the Romanian brothers Valentin and Catalin Badea
who had the audience captivated and literally screaming for more with their
gravity defying movements. Impossible not to be astonished with their
performance. Kudos boys!
One more Kudos to the daredevil Married couple of Rachel
Irving and Charlie Peratt with Knifes being thrown around their act, what made
their act lovely was their humour and the fact that they are married. They
entrusted their lives with each other, which is quite sweet. It was not as
sweet while watching though, our hearts were sitting on our throats because of
the nerves! With Rachel using words like “What if this are my last moments on
earth” “cross your fingers and acclaim that Rachel, YOU WILL NOT DIE” “I am
literally risking my life for your entertainment” … you would be nervous too if
you keep hearing such words! Cirque Infernal is exciting to watch but needs a
lot of improvement in some elements but nothing too major to throw you off!
