Ladies empowered at VARSITY COLLEGE

Ladies to Legends Campaign

#VCLADIES2LEGENDS

The ladies to legends campaign by Varsity College aims to inspire and motivate ladies through collaboration. As a firm supporter of women empowerment, I was moved by all the stories and advices from women who fought (and are still fighting) for equality and economic emancipation of women.

I went to the Pretoria leg of the events held around the country for this campaign. I went there to be enlightened and to hear what these remarkable women had to endure to get to success. Speakers for the evening were:

1. MAPALO MAKHU: She is a personal finance coach and speaker, founder of women & finance. This woman blew me away and exceeded my expectations. She talked about investing and how ladies are scared to talk about finances amongst themselves. She encourages this as it is important for women to give advice to each other on how to make good financial decisions. Mapalo quit her corporate job a year ago to pursue her own dream. So far things are going well for her having to appear on Enca news network, MarieClaire Magazine and many more exciting things. Her top finance top is to invest in Asset management companies.

2. ADE VAN HEERDEN: The ever so classy Ade is a former miss South Africa, studied Medicine and practised in the army. She talked to the ladies about health(both emotional and physical health) - her top tip for physical health is to walk. Ade says "walking decreases the risk of heart diseases in the future" for emotional health she says "Take time out for yourself by yourself, watch a movie, drink wine, just alone." Ade did not have an easy journey to success, she had to hold down 4 Jobs while studying to pay for her fees. She advices the ladies to never give up, They should write down their goals and look at them every morning, devise a plan on how to achieve those goals.

3. Gilli Apter
The ever so hilarious Gilli Apter was our MC for the evening and she also highlighted her struggles as a female comedian in a male dominated industry. Gilli is also a Comedy writer and director
