BROOKDALE ESTATE WINERY UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN THE PAARL WINELANDS

Construction has commenced at Brookdale Estate  in the Paarl Winelands, where a wine cellar with a sales and tasting area is due for completion in the summer of 2021/22.

Situated in a secluded area against the dramatic backdrop of the Klein Drakenstein mountains, the design of the new winery is rooted in Cape Vernacular architecture.  Architect Michael Dall has carefully positioned the new buildings to make the most of the magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and vineyards.

The cellar will be the domain of talented young winemaker Kiara Scott, and this is where she will continue to produce the estate’s flagship, old-vine Chenin Blanc, as well as its range of Mason Road wines – a Chenin Blanc, Syrah and the Serendipity Rosé. She will also be working on the maiden vintage of Brookdale’s unique 16-varietal White Field Blend, that will include some varieties that are not commonly found in South Africa, such as Roussanne, Vermentino, Marsanne, Petit Manseng, Alvarino, Palomino, Piquepoul Blanc, Verdelho, Clairette Blanc and Macabeau.  This year Brookdale is also planting a 20-varietal Red Field Blend that will include Tempranillo, Touriga Franca, Souzao, Grenache Noir, Agiorgitiko and Alicante Bouschet.

Elsewhere on the 67-hectare estate, the Brookdale Manor House is already in operation, offering secluded, luxury accommodation in six suites which is available on a full-service, or self-catering basis. Launch special offers are available for SA Residents.

Other future plans include a restaurant on Brookdale Estate with Executive Chef Gary Coetzee at the helm, who comes with extensive experience gained over nearly ten years as head chef of Singita’s lodges in the Sabi Sand, followed by a decade as private chef to the Kerzner family at their Leeukoppie estate in Hout Bay.
