– Luyanda Mthethwa who is popularly known as June or most
recently, as Jazzy June is a music producer and rapper from Durban. He is one of the founding
members of the groundbreaking hip hop group, PalmTree Paradise who took the nation by storm
with their hit single, Unbelievable, in 2016.
Jazzy June surprised his fans on social media with the announcement of his collaboration with
SkhandaWorld artist, Loki, on what he said would be his first single from his upcoming Pink Roses
EP – the song Colourful Aura is available to download and streaming on all digital streaming
services from Friday, 10th September 2021 – a perfect way to welcome the new Spring Season.
Pink Roses is a body of work that inspires and promotes love and self-reflection, it is a true
reflection of how June has grown to view love as the main purpose of life. The song Colourful Aura
represents June’s ability to adapt to any situation as well as many different surroundings that he
encounters on a daily basis and in his life as a new father. He considers this a gift and uses this song
to express how he is able to use this gift to his benefit.
This song is different to the Hip Hop / Trap sound that is popular today; Jazzy June is more soulful
and melodical in his delivery, he does not hold back lyrically though, delivering 2 verses and the
chorus with Loki featured on the third and last verse.
Soul Rap is how he describes his new music and sound; his sound is melodically soothing, his lyrics
are motivational with a positive outlook on life, promoting knowledge of self and a self-worth. This
is why he added the pre-fix ‘Jazzy’ to June, which he was previously known as. He now goes by the
name of Jazzy June to describe this new sound.
