Brand new crime drama Maigret coming soon to Universal TV

A team of detectives tackle Paris’s most dangerous cases - premiering 29 January at 8 PM.

Brand-new crime drama Maigret will premiere on Universal TV (DSTV 117) on 29 January at 8 PM with back-to-back episodes every Thursday until the season finale on 12 February 2026.

Starring Benjamin Wainwright (Belgravia: The Next Chapter, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim), this six-episode series contains a close-ended story in each two-hour block, opening with Maigret & the Lazy Burglar in which Maigrettracks down the brutal killers of a skilled burglar while taking down a team responsible for daring bank heists that have plagued Paris. Maigret’s Failure is the second two-hour block, in which Maigret tries and fails to protect Ferdinand Fumal, one of the richest men in France, from the death threats against him. The first season ends with Maigret Comes Home, in which Maigret must draw out the murderer of the young heir to a wealthy perfume family, while at the same time investigating the death of Sophie, the Countess of Saint-Fiacre, the village which is his childhood home.

After his parents died, Maigret left for Paris, rising quickly through the ranks of the Paris Police thanks to his fearlessness and deep knowledge of criminal gangs. He’s an unusual detective – empathetic to perpetrators and indifferent to hierarchy and authority. Newly appointed Chief Inspector of the Brigade Criminelle of the Police Judiciaire, the elite investigative unit of the Paris Police – Maigret works with a team of maverick but loyal detectives who are known as Les Maigrets. His safe place is his home, with his wife, Louise (Stefanie Martini), however, his childhood home still lingers in his dreams with its beauty, its sadness and its unresolved issues.
